Should be good weekend for the URHOEA. Two very good shows for all of us spectators to attend. I havent been to Ashville in years. Probably going on 15 or 20
years. Man I must be getting old!!! Anyway, good luck to everyone showing. I hope to make the trip over to Danville WV this weekend. Hope to have the results
for everyone on Sunday when I get back home. What show is everyone planning on going to?

Talked to someone across the mountain a little while ago...........USDA is at Land O sky (of course we had already heard they were going in another topic)!
Four to be exact....and they are swabbing! Not many horses showing tonight, lots of people 'watching' at DQP.....Don't think I'll be going over
this year!

what is the big deal with the USDA , and dqp .... ?? Are they really bad or something ..?? i thought they were just enforcing laws to make sure horses werent
being mistreated ....
|

yes | ||

Yes the USDA is really bad. There intent is supposed to be for the mistreatment of horses but what they are really wanting to do is shut the horse business
down. They are completely ridiculous on how they check horses. They are the main reasons I dont show anymore. I dont see how these trainers can continue to
take the risk of losing their livley hood because of these tree huggers who wouldnt know anything about a horse if their life depended on it. They need to
worry more about what really matters in this country instead of if a horse has a hair out of place on the back of its foot. Some things just really get on my
nerves and our government is definatly one of those things.

Anyone that thinks the USDA is just enforcing a law has got their head where the sun does not shine. Yes, they are here and they are out to shut down the TWH
business. If they can cause enough havoc at enough shows, charities will quit putting on shows to make money and do something else. People will get disgusted
paying $4.00+ a gallon for gas and $500+ monthly training bills and there will be fewer horses showing, no shows to show at, trainers will quit, and you pretty
much ruin the TWH business. BUT maybe we can get them to budget $39 million to take care of the TW Horses and people like they have the wild mustangs. Lets
face it the TWH business is really small, maybe 5,000 horse showing, the Breeders has 3000 members in a country of 300 million people we are a pain in the
side. Shut us down get rid of the problem. Besides that we are pretty stupid, we pay a lobbyist over $100,000 a year and things are worse now than before. The
breeders spent over a million and have just about gone broke…now begging for money. Fire the lobbies, sue the USDA, and tie them up in court for
discrimination!
In a country where one of the presidential candidate's advisors says our economic problems are not real…we are in pitiful shape. They can't even figure out what is causing our food supply problem and have broken the tomato industry on wrong info. BUT you better not get a hair out of place on a horse. Let me see they can find food supply problems but they can swab a horse's foot for a chemical. That is good use of technology. By the way if you are too young to remember the three chemicals that are allowed were originally the ones that we were allowed to use as lubricants at the shows… not the only thing allowed on a horse. But that was over 30 years ago and when the USDA had some COMMON SENSE. Let's face it, the ones with the gold makes the rules and we have very little gold. The ones making the rules are corporate American and the tree huggers. WE NEED TO PITCH A FIT!

I, for one, don't have a problem with the USDA, and I can promise that I can go thru DQP without any problem. I even have a horse that has a terrible
barbed-wire cut's scar, that has never had a problem with ANY DQP.
What the gov't is trying to do is to stop the torture/abuse, and yes, they should be. At every single show that I have been to this year, the DQP's were just going thru the motions, and not trying to stop anything. I even saw one horse that would, every time anyone came toward it, it would try to lay down. It actually did lay down, twice. Anyone who decides not to go, just because the USDA is at a particular show, is just hurting themselves, as well as the associations. If any org. shuts down, it's because of the members causing it to. Rackman, The best way for a trainer not to lose his/her livelyhood, is to quit soring/fixing/touching/pressure shoeing. And don't even bother trying to tell me that it don't happen any more. Most of us no better, and the ones that don't really know, can find out easy. If the USDA was at a show where every single horse that went thru DQP with clean, sound, and uncontaminated feet/hair, then there would be no need for the USDA to be at the show. Like someone said, on another thread, some trainers are, although they honestly wanting to begin to change, they still don't want to be out sored, out fixed, or out-rulebreakered (I know that it's not a word, but, only word that I could think of), so they wait till everyone else changes. They need to start stopping (the abuse, that is) today. |

People like you (Elem creek Frams) make the gov't what they are today. You should join them and start checking horses because you would fit right in. The
point is they dont give tickets to EVERYONE, sound horses or not. Just because you dont have trouble with your pleasure horses going thru inspection doesnt
mean others dont. The trainers in Shelbyville are the best in the world and see how many of them go in front of the USDA unless they have to. I dont mean to be
mean but if you think the USDA is fair and is doing the right thing than you need see a medical doctor because you are not well. People take better care of
their horses than some people do their own kids!!

I normally try to avoid posting my opinion but I for one and so tired of the government and it's not just the USDA and their circus of an inspection process. What makes me more angry than anything is our so called 'leader's in Washington have just bent over backwards and allowed animal rights people to shove whatever up their rear-ends and not even listen to people with sense anymore. I will make no secret about it. I despise animal rights groups. They are nothing but a bunch of tree huggin', lack of common sense, waste of space there ever was. It INFURIATES me that my tax dollars are being spent for some nut to crawl around on the ground looking for a hair out of place on a horse when I drive everyday past a field of horses here in my hometown that are STARVING and they care more about a show horse's foot than they do about a dying horse. Tell me, what is WRONG with that picture? Absolutely everything! The government has no right to tell you what you can or can not spend your money on, what you an wear, what you can do to something you own, where or what you can have sex with, or what you can do with your life. PERIOD. And ever so slowly, that is what they are doing. Slowly, they are putting bans and restrictions into our daily lives to pretty soon, we might as well live somewhere else. The way this country is ran today is NOT what our four fathers intended it to be. And not to sound like a bible thumper but the bible does say God put animals here for OUR use and OUR enjoyment. I don't believe in beating animals but if someone wants to put pads and chains on horse and show him in an arena, by goodness, that is our right and who does the government think they are telling us we can't, which is what they are doing. People spend more money on show horses than some people do their kids. Do you really think they are going to do something that will hurt the horse. The USDA will not stop until the pads are gone, til the chains are gone, and until the we are all riding daisy stepping horses around an arena. (Nothing wrong with pleasure horses, I own two). Next thing, they will tell us bits are too harsh. ElamCreekFarms - No offense, but I don't expect you to understand the USDA concept because you believe a horse can rack 47 mph! ChainMan is right, you do need to see a doctor! DQP inspectors are different than USDA inspectors and you just haven't ran into the right one yet. It's like this. If we were 100% compliant, it would not matter. If the USDA runs out of tickets to write, they are out of a job. So, we will never be 100% compliant because as long as there is a quota to be made, they will find whatever to write tickets for. That's not enforcing the horse protection act, that's looking for something that isn't there. You want abuse? Go look at all these starving horses that in the fields today because the idiots in Washington listened to tree huggers saying 'aww, poor horsies! Don't kill them, they are our friends!" Ok. Let's ban horse slaughter so the horses will not die a quick death and feed someone overseas. Now, the horses have no where to go. Market value has bottomed out and people are turning horses out to fend for themselves because they can't take them to the meat market anymore. Now look. They are wasting MORE tax dollars trying to figure out what to do with all the horses and my two year old cousin even knows the answer to that problem - reopen slaughter houses! No wonder the economey is shot to hadies. Horse slaughter alone was a 10 billion dollar a year business for the states. If something doesn't change, I'm going to have to start photographing dog shows. Well, that is until the USDA says Rover is not allow to wear a collar because it's cruel and usual! Give me a break! Excuse me, I have to go take my blood pressure medicine!

I want to say first that I am indeed an animal lover and work have worked for a vet for 20 years and have only pleasure racking and walking horses. I have
never had a chain on any of my pleasure horse since I have had them, but have been given a hard time by 2 different USDA inspectors on 2 different trail
pleasure horse and was not written up but given a warning and told not to bring this particular horse back thru. Both of these horse have wire cuts on their
heel bulbs. And I also have friends that have been written up that I know do not sore their horses and did not deserve a ticket.
And like others have said, there are plenty of other places to see truely abused horses. Try many concession trail riding business, and just drive around the country side and see starved horses with wounds that are not being taken care of. That is what is really sad. I don't know what if anything can be done about the situation........ Gina |

Charmin has the results up on the United site. Quite a few URHOEA horses shown with the USDA in attendance. My darlin' Macky racked one step closer to the
Show Pleasure high point award. I just want to take a minute to thank John for keeping him so ready (he's not easy) and to all of you for the wonderful
compliments that you give us. Thanks again for your support. Next stop Waynensville.

SusieW,
My husband and I were at Land O' Sky last weekend with our Trail Pleasure horse and caught you class. I even taped it for my husband. He loves speed racking and he really loved wathcing you and your horse. What a great team! I almost got dizzy trying to keep up with you in the ring. We loved it!

Thanks so much ilovewalkin it was a fun ride, and Land of the Sky is our favorite show. I even went one year knowing no matter how well I rode this one judge
would not place us well, but the show is for such a good cause. We have been showing there since the late 90's.
The other rider and I are friends, and we cut up and have a blast. I wish all the other riders would cut up and have fun like we do. It sure was hot but Stroker wanted to ride. We had a great time. Stroker usually makes the DQP run for their life he gets so excitied at the show and since the dqp is so close to the warm up ring he likes to show off. He is a real ham. LOL.. Thanks you made my night. Good luck to you at your next show. Susie |

tessie,
You just think you know everything. First, just because YOU don't see something, doesn't mean it hasn't happened. Second, the government has every right to, and is allowed to, "tell you what you can or cannot spend your money on" (can you say illegal drugs/prostitution/hitmen/etc...), and to "...what you can DO to someTHING that you OWN" (emphasis mine)( you can't shoot someone with the gun that you own, or run over someone with the car that you own, or give your prescription medications to any other person, or build a manufacturing plant on property zoned for residential housing. It just proves that you are either pretty young, or young-minded. And for your info, our horses have been inspected by the USDA, several times, with absolutely no problem. God gave us the responsibility to be responsibile stewards of the animals, not treat them any way that we want to, just because we can. That's pure selfishness. And to do it for financial gain, or the hope for financial gain, is called greed. Yes, some people WILL do things that will hurt the horse. I understand the concept of you not knowing what you are talking about concerning our horse, and what it actually DID DO. If you have a horse that you feel is "unwanted", how about you stepping up to the plate, and humanely euthanizing it, and bury it. Or, is it easier for you to take it to the auction, where it is bought by a "killer" (and you are getting paid for it to die, which is not so 'Godly', by the way). Market prices are NOT low because of the slaughterhouse ban. The factors that ARE hurting the market are: 1) Drought, which has made lots of things cost much more (grain, hay, fuel, groceries, utilities, etc...). Oh, but, I'm sure that the closing of the horse slaughterhouses are to blame for higher fuel, groceries, grain/feed, and everything else. Probably the reason that the housing market has plummeted. 2) Economy, in general. 3) Bad image of the 'fixed' show horses BUT, mostly because of factor #1 Note to you, THEY ARE OUR FRIENDS, but yes, yours is the attitude that has perpetuated the mindset of the soring crowd. They look at the horse as a means to an end, and not as our trusted, LOYAL, and reliable FRIENDS. We owe the wonderful horses our undying gratitude, and respect for what they do, for us, and our enjoyment. But, for people like yourself (from your own words, and/or attitude), it's all about the money, isn't it. Sorry if I seem a little harsh, but just returning your favor, only with facts. Now, if we're really want the Gov't to leave us alone, we need to work together, not try to insult each other. I have not insulted you, nor will I. God Bless You. |
