When she was born she was completely normal as far as we could see. At about one month she went very knock kneed and her knees were very swollen. I got her on a homeopathic for children with arthritis. After a while we noticed that more joints were swelling, back legs as well as her front ankle joints. She stayed on the homeopathic for about two months and we tweaked it a little to get a little better response. Her back legs straightened right out and are normal now. Her swelling went down in the front knees quite considerably and she was no longer knock kneed, but now her legs went wonky from the ankle down and she developed bumps all over between her coronet band and her pastern. The first thing the vet said when he saw her like this was that she almost looked like she had rickets. She did not ever during all this time run around much or play with the other foals. She was starting to lie down a lot as well. The vet suggested putting her on 2 Vitamin D a day, 3 Vitamin E, a half tablespoon of Milled Flax Seed and 1 tablespoon of 1/1 calcium/phosphorus mineral. I also have been giving her Coflex which is a glucosamine for horses, which she likes very much. She has picked up as far as she is moving around better know and even runs and plays a little. I have seen a little improvement in her right front but no improvement in her left front.
