Spring is a wonderful time to ride your horse at Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area. Did you ever wonder or even notice what those flowers were looming along the horse trail? This spring take the time to ride the trails in search of spring wildflowers. Park Ranger Sue Duncan will be leading a wildflower horse ride on Sunday April 20, 2008. Those taking the trip should meet at the Area F day-use trail parking lot at 9:30 a.m. The group will stop to look at wildflowers along the trail, will find out about some of their legends and stories, and perhaps even learn a few of their names. The ride will travel to the Charit Creek Lodge via the Jacks Ridge and Black House Branch trails and thin up to the Charit Creek Overlook where beautiful waterfalls can be seen along the way. From the Charit Creek Overlook riders will be given the option of returning by the same route or taking a longer loop ride along Hatfield Ridge and return by way of the Station Camp Creek horse trail. Bring your own horse, water and a wildflower guide with you. Be sure to pack a lunch, there are a number of beautiful places to stop for a picnic along the way. Restrooms are available at the Charit Creek Lodge. If you have questions, please contact Bandy Creek Visitor Center at 423.286.7275. |
