Our saddle club association in Alabama is full of NRHA folks. I guess the fastest speed horses I have seen were at a national show in Elijay. I do have a
question .....a local judge who is also a NRHA judge said it is ok for a saddlebred to trot in the curves.....is that correct?

I personally do not know what the "official" answer is, but the question, itself, seems to answer itself. If the gait that is called for is a rack,
then a rack should be maintained, not only on the straight-aways, but also in the curves. Because a rack is a rack, and a trot is a trot.
Come on world (not aimed at ANYone, just a frustrated scream), what happened to people having/using common sense. And also following the rules, not making new ones as we go along. |

No, a ASB shouldn't be trotting the curves. If so, they should be docked for it. They should always be racking. :)

Thank you for confirming what I always said.....do the gait the judge calls for. I bet you know a bunch of our friends that show nationals. There are also
several more that will start showing with y'all this year.

sorry about the original post getting messed up, i was trying to make some changes and got all messed up, now i can't figure it out, but i see you got some
answers and i agree, when asked for a rack the horse should rack, now some horses will trot to the line up, but in the class they should rack, just wondering
who the judge was that said that? who are your friends? we welcome new memebers all the time and at times like these we need all the horse show people we can
get to help support shows, not just our shows but all shows.

I wont say in the open forum but you may email me, or, I can email you & tell you his name. As for the folks that show with y'all.....do you remember
OJ & Gwen Sims? Their grandson Evan Bearden? How bout Todd Atherton, Allen & Michelle Bice, a really dear friend who is one of your judges, Fred Gann.
The McCain's (Bill, Catherine & Cheyanne). How bout Benji Miller? He may go by BK or Benji. Quite a few actually. Our association has gone to pretty
much breeder style now but when we started here (1995) it was VERY HEAVY national.

real big but what a motor in him. i also own a little black horse that allen bice started, i got him from rex vanpelt, he's another alabamIAN? all of them

Yes I know the Vanpelts very well.....good folks. They will show up at our shows every now & then. Do you also remember Dutch Boy & Goodbye Susie from
the Sims crew? Evan rode another good un for a while, Batman. He had an awsome front end, just had a tendency to get a little flaky. I bet you knew the
Stephens as well (Larry, Doris, Lee & Jessica). They live right up the road. We went to a show in Elijay once ( just to watch), Fred Gann was judging &
the next week at the saddle club show he said he never saw me but knew I was there.......he heard me

hehe......sometimes he would just go wacko in the ring....like he would just forget what a rack was & how to stay on the rail. May very well have been the
feed or whatever since you didnt have trouble with him....he seemed very high strung. But boy did he have a front end!!!! I loved watching Evan ride him.

well now that you metioned it he was a bit high strung, but like you said he had a front end that wouldn't quit. and i can't remember if i had trouble
or not, i was so scared on him,to this day he was/is the only horse i ever sat on that you could feel him "RUMBLE" underneath you, sorta like an
engine reaving up!
